Cooperative learning: Jigsaw

For cooperative learning to work, it is important that the members of the group can contribute different information and/or skills. One way of doing this is via a jigsaw.

Each student is a member of 2 groups, eg a number and letter, or a colour and a letter.

  • Step 1: students leave their home group and join an expert group working with a particular aspect of the topic of study.
  • Step 2: they return to their home group and share the skill/knowledge that they have gained, enabling their home group to complete the assigned task.
