Why can't the classroom be more fun? More like a game? It can... and in a way that promotes GM.
- You can play games, like Kahoot, Quizizz and Blooket. These are fun and do allow some opportunity for strategic thinking and learning by re-doing.
- A principle of gaming is to give students different ways to score points - not just marks for tests and assignments, but for any aspects of the learning experience you facilitate for them: eg “for completing assignments, participating in class or anything that demonstrates effort to learn… even if they take on extra-curricular work.” You can assign them levels based on their scores, and give them ways to “level up”.
- Allow second and third chances so that students can focus on improving and growing rather than just achieving a good mark. This can be one way to level up.
